Alan Jones 2 GB - 7th May, 2004
He finished his weekly program on the Friday before
Mothers’ Day with a segment just on Brian’s
CD, and the song The Things that Mother’s Do.
QUOTE: Well, Mothers’ Day on Sunday – here’s
a nice song for Mum - from a bloke called Brian Elkington.
He’s just released a CD of original music entitled
“A Mark in Time”… He’s written
all the songs on the album including this one: ‘The
Things that Mothers Do’ – Listen to
the words too [plays song then talks with song in background]
It’s Beautiful isn’t it, ‘eh ?
[Reading lyrics]
It’s the things that mothers do,
that keeps the world spinning round,
that make a joyful sound
when the rest of us are down
what we need to pull us through
are the things that mother’s do
So mother dear, this one’s for you
This is Brian
Elkington. His website is brianelkington.com [spells
it out] the CD’s called ‘A Mark in Time’.
[Reading lyrics]
For all the little things
For every worried hour
For the smile that kept us going
when it seem too far
For being there every time
For tenderly letting go
For the love that never fails
Though we try you so
Beautiful isn’t
it? ‘The things that mothers do’.
So wherever you mothers are Happy Mother’s Day
- and even if your mothers are not with you now, still
think of them and be grateful for all things they have
done for all of us. Thanks for the program this week,
and we’ll see you on Monday same time. Have a
good weekend. All the best.”

Bob Rogers 2CH - 8th May, 2004
The
Day before Mother’s Day Bob Rogers had played
some songs from the album the previous 2 weeks and then
invited Brian in for an interview. In all the segment
took about 15 minutes. He played two songs (This Things
that Mothers Do and And When You’re Older) and
commented on the songs and talked to Brian either side
of playing them.
SELECT QUOTES
BY BOB ROGERS during the interview:
“I can’t
tell you how impressed I am with the whole album”
“I want
to tell people about your album – because the
songs are so poignant..”
“All
your songs are quite wonderful”
“Now
that is a beautiful song” [about The Things
That Mothers Do]
I’m most
impressed with it. Here is one [And When You’re
Older] that almost makes me cry – because
I did one better than you. I have four daughters, you
have three.
“Isn’t
that beautiful? (about And When You’re Older]
“You’ve
done a beautiful job in producing the album.”
“The
album is called ‘A Mark in Time’
– and I think it’s a beauty”.

I want to let you know, that your Album came in today.
It is time enough to take your song “Taking My Time”
for my week 21, program. I think the song will be aired
on Friday, May 21.
I have to listen more carefully to all of your songs,
but “Taking My Time” met my ears at once.

Massimo Ferro – DJ Radio Voce Spazio, Alessandria,
Italy
I just started playing it [the CD] in my radio show of
American roots based music after listening to it a couple
of times. …"The Things That Mothers Do"
was the first song I selected but please let me say that
surely more from "A Mark In Time" will follow
on air in the next weeks: That is in fact a fine album,
with some good songs and simple but sparse and effective
arrangements! Brian has also a friendly and tender voice
that fits his songs very well and is the ideal vehicle
for his intense lyrics.

I love the songs on the [web]
links .. and I read a number of the lyrics. You don't
know how much that all touched me and made me nostalgic.
I wish even more, now, that over the years I would have
had the chance to see you perform live.

Pat and I just love it. Pat will have it going in his

room. It’s very addictive you know. It really is.

I was listening to it all day yesterday. Every song is
great. You know how you get an album and there are songs
you want to skip over - and only about 60% that you want
to hear again. With Brian’s album I want to hear
every one – over and over.

I listened to the whole A
Mark In Time CD. I felt like I was back at Calhoun Square
with a front row seat. Brian has stolen my heart, once
again, with his musical magic.

Wow!! He may need to have
been a lawyer to understand all the contracts they’ll
be tossing his way!!!

That's a really touching
song and a nice voice! (He sounds a tiny bit like Billy
Joel in certain parts). Who is he?
|
|
|
Linda S
Hi Mara - really enjoyed
that CD track you emailed - it's hard to get commercial
exposure without a record company backing you but he should
try the community radio stations for deserved airplay.

Avigdor Z
Please congratulate Brian on my behalf. His voice reminds
me a bit of Neil Young, although i think Brian can hold
his notes better...

Don D - Golden Valley,

THAT WAS FANTASTIC!!!! I
really appreciate you sending it to me. Too bad I'm not
still in the college music business. I could probably
help you set up a tour here, but that was OH, so many
years ago! I haven't heard you sing since Hamline and
your voice sounds so great.

Bill E - Richfield

I don't know whether to praise
you or curse you. I've had your songs running through
my head constantly since I had a chance to listen to your
CD. You've done a great job, written some very nice melodies,
with, as I've found, some pretty impressive hooks in them.

Lynne L - Nashville

Your lyrics are, I believe,
on equal footing with those of John Denver, Paul Simon
(especially early and middle years), and Gordon Lightfoot.
Your songs have a special quality that makes them like
no others and
that sets you miles apart from all the sound-alikes we
hear every year.

Hallie S
What a lovely song... Brian has a sweet, mellow voice.
Is this song
typical of his work? I might be interested in a CD--I'll
have to email him about it.

I e-mailed them and told
the hosts that “one for the boys” was the
greatest song I ever heard!

Your CD is still number 1 on my changer! …What a
wonderful disc of songs. Some really rock. The piano and
sax really compliment your guitar.
